It really is important to build your own small community if at all possible. At least you live in the NJ/NY area. You could live in Arkansas and not have anyone within 150 miles you could commiserate with!

sbSteven Belledinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02798269170915291454noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3245662519209286682.post-80462206029990908972012-07-11T10:06:40.241-04:002012-07-11T10:06:40.241-04:00Thanks, Gina! There were demos and such, but I feel like we were often left to our own devices when it came to actually applying paint and such. Truth be told, a single demo really isn't enough to penetrate my brain. I needed a good half dozen of them. That didn't happen, though. I still don't really think of myself as a painter, so much as an illustrator who happens to use paint.

sbSteven Belledinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02798269170915291454noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3245662519209286682.post-22969702627626004292012-07-11T00:52:06.778-04:002012-07-11T00:52:06.778-04:00If only there were more open workshops among fanta...If only there were more open workshops among fantasy and science fiction artists in the NJ/NY area, so much potential talent could develop into something more. This stuff about feeling better when you witness how others paint made me think about how in college - at least for me and my friends who went to University of the Arts - we were pretty much on our own with painting. You'd get criticism of how the piece might look better, but you were pretty much up to your own devices on how to make that happen. At our school we painted eggs and copied an old master painting and it was : go forth - paint! :)Ginahttp://spotcolors.wordpress.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3245662519209286682.post-50616718801082714612012-07-10T15:09:06.405-04:002012-07-10T15:09:06.405-04:00Thanks, Chris.
